Heathside School is a co-educational secondary school for students aged 11–18 situated in Brooklands Lane, Weybridge, Surrey, England. The Principal is Tracy Dohel[1] and the Executive Head is Anne Cullum.

The school used to be a Foundation Community Technology College in affiliation with the Diocese of Guildford. The school is also affiliated with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.[2] Academically, the school is often in the top 20% of the country with regular successful admissions into top universities including the University of Oxford and Cambridge.

The Good School Guide described the school as a "Winning combination of committed staff and eager students – state education as it should be".[3] Ofsted describes the school as a Good School.[4]

Heathside School is currently in the process of opening a sister school, Heathside Walton-on-Thames,[5] in September 2022. The new school was announced by Prime Minister David Cameron[6] in his final act and has the support of the Department for Education and Surrey County Council. On the 4th June 2020, Elmbridge Borough Council approved the plans, with local MP Dominic Raab describing it as "an important step for a great new local school".[7]

Houses

The School has four Houses: Hawks, Kestrels, Falcons and Eagles (colours purple, blue, orange and green respectively). These are named after the birds of prey and aims to encourage community, pride and a sense of belonging. Pupils are assigned to a House as they start at the school, which they stay in throughout their school career. Whilst a significant number of House points are awarded at the end-of-term Sports Day, students are offered the chance to earn house points for positive behaviour or attitude throughout the school year. Students with an especially high number of points are given small rewards respective to their point total. The House with the most House points at the end of the school year are announced at the end of Sports Day and are traditionally awarded a trophy. If a sibling of a Heathside pupil were to join the school, he or she would be assigned to the same house.

Academics

Over the past few years, Heathside has produced outstanding GCSE grades in the top 10% of the country. In summer 2019, 39%[8] of all GCSE grades were awarded a grade 9-7 with an overall pass rate of 99.9%. The Executive Headteacher, Anne Cullum, described the results as "record breaking results" whilst Tracey Dohel, Head of School, called the results "remarkable".

In A-Levels, similar outstanding results were achieved. In summer 2019, 39%[9] of all A-Levels were graded A - A* with 36 students achieving two or more A or A*. The school also has a successful admission rate into the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge 4 pupils (3%)[10] enrolling in 2018, which is 3 times the national average (1%).

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at Heathside consists of 202 pupils. The Sixth Form Centre, located above the English block provides students with access to computers and quiet study time. This aims to allow Sixth Formers the opportunity to choose whether to study independently or in a group. The Sixth Form centre also has a separate catering facility allowing Sixth Formers the added benefit of convenience to get food and drink. Sixth Former are allowed to drive their vehicle to school provided that they have a valid license. Additionally, Year 13 students are allowed off campus for break and lunch time.
