Handball Federation of India

The Handball Federation of India, Rohtak (Hindi: हैंडबॉल फेडरेशन ऑफ इंडिया, रोहतक) (HFI) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball in Republic of India. HFI is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 at Rohtak. HFI is a member of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) and the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1974. It is also a member of Commonwealth Handball Association and South Asian Handball Federation. Handball was founded in India by Choudhary Jagat Singh Lohan a Jat from Rohtak (Haryana) who was an alumnus of YMCA College of Physical Education of Madras (now Chennai). He was also the first Secretary General of HFI.[1][2] In 2010, the federation elections were held under observers from the Sports Ministry as it had given prior intimation to the ministry about its Annual general meeting (AGM) and subsequent elections, this created a precedent for other sports federations in the country.[3] Since 22 December 2013, Dr. M. Ramasubramani and Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey are President and Secretary General of HFI respectively.
