The municipality has a population of 502 (31 January 2019)[6] and covers an area of 605.99 square kilometres (233.97 sq mi) of which 522.14 km2 (201.60 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 5.95 inhabitants per square kilometre (15.4/sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Swedish.
