Gernot Blümel

Gernot Blümel (born 24 October 1981) is an Austrian politician who has been serving as Minister of Finance in the government of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz since 2020. From 2017 until 2019, he was the Chancellery's Minister for European Affairs, Art, Culture and Media.

Education and career

Blümel studied philosophy at the University of Vienna and at the University of Burgundy and graduated with a master's degree. He holds an MBA degree from the Vienna University of Economics and Business's Executive Academy.[1]

Career

From 2008 to 2010, Blümel was vice president of the Youth of the European People's Party and from 2013 to 2015, secretary general of the Peoples's Party. Since 2015 he has been serving as chairman of the ÖVP in Vienna.

During the first coalition government led by Kurz, Blümel served as government coordinator, the main conduit for policy discussions between the ruling parties.[2]
