Gabon–Georgia relations

The Gabon–Georgia relations are the bilateral relations between the Gabonese Republic, in West Africa, and Georgia, in the South Caucasus.

The diplomatic relations between Gabon and Georgia were established on 19 September 2011[1], when Grigol Vashadze, the Georgian Foreign Affairs Minister, and his Gabonese counterpart Paul Toungui met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City[2] to sign the first bilateral agreement between both states. In 2015, Foreign Ministers Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet met again to talk about both nations sharing their experiences on state reforms[3].

In August 2018, a cargo ship carrying 17 Georgian sailors was lost off the coast of West Africa. The ship was found a week later in mysterious circumstances off Gabon and was docked by the Gabonese Petroleum Storage Company at the port of Ovendo[4].

Visa Regime

Because of the lack of a visa-free regime, Georgian citizens must obtain a tourist, business, or residence visa before going to Gabon. Such visas can only be obtained by Georgians at the consular services of the Gabonese embassies in Moscow or Paris[5].
