Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil

The Filmfare Best Actress Award is given by the Filmfare magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards South for Tamil (Kollywood) films. The awards were extended to "Best Actress" in 1972.[1] The year indicates the year of release of the film.

  • Sujatha, Raadhika, Revathi and Nayanthara with three wins each, have maximum awards. Five actresses won the award twice; in chronological order, they are Jayalalithaa, Lakshmi, Saritha, Laila and Anjali.
  • Sujatha won the most awards in the 1970s with three. Saritha and Raadhika won the award two times in the 80s, and Revathi won three times in the 1990s for the most in that decade. Laila had two wins in the 2000s, while Nayanthara has won the most in the 2010s with three wins.
  • Five actresses have won the awards in consecutive years; in chronological order, they are Jayalalithaa (1972–1973) , Sujatha (1975,1976 and 1977) , Raadhika (1986–1987) , Revathi (1992,1993 and 1994) ,and Anjali (2010–2011).
  • Jayalalithaa, Revathi and Samantha Akkineni are the only three actresses to win both Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil and Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Telugu in the same year for their performances in the year 1972,1992 and 2012 respectively. Lakshmi and Poornima Bhagyaraj won Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil and Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Malayalam for her performances in the same year(1974 and 1982 respectively). Saritha is the only Actress to win Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil and Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Kannada in the same year(1984).
  • Seven actresses have won for their debut Tamil films, in chronological order Manisha Koirala(1995), Shruti(1996), Sandhya(2004), Bhavana(2006), Parvathy Thiruvothu (2008), Malavika Nair(2014) and Ritika Singh(2016).
  • Shobha, Archana and Priyamani have won Filmfare award for Best Actress Tamil and National Film Award for Best Actress for their performances in Pasi (1979), Veedu (1988) and Paruthiveeran (2006) respectively.
  • Raadhika, Simran Bagga and Jyothika have won awards in 2 different categories other than this category.[3][4] Raadhika has won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 and Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 2015.Simran has won both debut award in 1997 and Best Supporting Actress Award in 2008, while jyothika won Debut award in 1999 and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – South in 2015,also she's the only actress of having most nominations with 11 and 1 win.[2][5]
  • Sneha is the only one actress with most nominations without ever winning in this category.She was awarded Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Tamil in 2002 and she's the first to get that honour in South.[6]
  • Jyothika and Trisha are the two actresses to win both Best Actress – Tamil and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – South.[7][8]
  • Sandhya was the youngest to win the award at the age of 17 for her debut film in her career.She was also given Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actress for the same movie ( Kaadhal ) she was awarded the best actress Award.She have the record of both youngest nominee and youngest winner in this category.[9]
