Far Eastern University Institute of Accounts, Business, and Finance

The Institute of Accountancy initially offered a three-year non-degree program designed to meet the minimum requirements for the certified public accountant (CPA) board examination. The Institute then branched out to other fields of study, business administration, economics, banking, and finance. One year after its founding, the school became the Institute of Accounts, Business, and Finance (IABF).

Classes were held at Masonic Temple on Escoplta Avenue, Manila where it used three rooms. In School Year 1930-’31, however, they were transferred to more spacious quarters at the Fajardo Building on Avenida Rizal, Manila.

When Dr. Reyes gained the controlling stock of the Far Eastern College which primarily offered Liberal Arts courses, he decided to merge it with IABF. With the expanded establishment, course offerings, and increased student population, the school merited a status as a full-fledged university. Thus, on November 5, 1933, Dr. Nicanor Reyes became the first president of what then came to be known as Far Eastern University. Its classroom and other facilities were housed in cigarette factory at the corner of Azcarraga Street (which was renamed Claro M. Recto Avenue in the 1970’s) and M. Lorenzo Street (now Quezon Boulevard).
