Dilpesend Kadın

Dilpesend Kadın (Ottoman Turkish: دل پسند قادین‎; 16 January 1861 – 17 June 1901) was the fifth wife of Sultan Abdul Hamid II of the Ottoman Empire.[1]

Life

Of Georgian origin, Dilpesend Kadın was born on 16 January 1861 in Tbilisi, Georgia.[2] Her father was Maksud Giray Bey.[3]

Before her marriage to Abdul Hamid, she served in the entourage of Tiryal Hanım, fourteenth wife of Sultan Mahmud II.[4] After her death in 1882-3,[5] as custom dictated, all of Tiryal Hanım's servants were transferred to Dolmabahçe Palace.[6]

Dilpesend married Abdul Hamid on 10 April 1883.[7][3] She was given the title of "Fourth Consort". On, 9 January 1884, a year after the marriage, she gave birth to her only child, a daughter, Naile Sultan.[8] In 1895, she was elevated to the title of "Third Consort".[1]

Death

Dilpesend Kadın died on 17 June 1901 at the Yıldız Palace,[2] and was buried in Yahya Efendi Cemetery. Istanbul.[1][9]

Issue

Dilpesend Kadın and Abdul Hamid had one daughter:

  • Naile Sultan (Constantinople, Yıldız Palace, 9 February 1884 – Erenköy, Asia Minor, 25 October 1957), married and had issue.
