Dahijuri is a village in Binpur I CD Block in Jhargram subdivision of Jhargram district in the state of West Bengal, India.

Socio-political turmoil

Dahijuri was a centre of violent Maoist activity during the Lalgarh movement days around 2009-2011.[1][2][3] Now Dahijuri has become stable and free from violent and Maoist activity. Total 10 Gram Panchayat[4] is under Dahijuri Gram Panchayat.[5].Current (2018-2023) Gram Panchayet Pradhan is Ms. Falguni Dey.

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Dahijuri had a total population of 3,237 of which 1,597 (49%) were males and 1,640 (51%) were females. Population below 6 years was 364. The total number of literates in Dahijuri was 2,066 (63.82% of the population over 6 years).[6]

Economy

The State Bank of India has a branch at Dahijuri.[7] Economy mainly depends on the cultivation here. Now S.B.I[8] came with their first A.T.M to give a new economic push.

Most of the population are depends on small business. Two famous sweet businessman from Dahijuri are Mr. Uttam Kar and Mr. Kalyan Kar, along with them there are two famous businessman Mr. Ranjit Kar and Mr. Pradip Kar are serving wholesale market. Construction materials are handled by Mr. Rajat Kundu. Hardware are handled by Das Hardware mostly. Dahijuri depends on one permanent MBBS doctor, Dr. Bablu Saren and three Homeopathy doctor, only two medical shop as of now currently serving the village.

Transport

SH 5 running from Rupnarayanpur (in Bardhaman district) to Junput (in Purba Medinipur district) passes through Dahijuri.[9]Dahijuri-Kanajpal-Lalgarh, Dahijuri-Dherua, Dahijuri-Parihati Roads converge on this place.[10]

Education

Dahijuri Mahatma Vidyapith was established in 1948. It is a co-educational Bengali-medium higher secondary school.[11]
