Background
WRocK Davao
In 1993, ACWS - United Broadcasting Network (ACWS-UBN) established the Davao radio station DXKR, more popularly called 95.5 WRocK Davao, on the FM band.
On October 6, 2008, it has been announced that Elizalde Group of Companies' Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) has purchased WRocK from the Hodreal family, owners of ACWS-UBN, for PhP229.6 million.[1]
While the Manila radio station is under the control of MBC, ACWS-UBN and sister company Exodus continued to retain control of the WRocK provincial stations.
Hit Radio Davao/Retro 95.5
In May 2010, the demise of WRocK Online saw UMBN's transfer of airtime lease agreement to 95.5 after its agreement with RBN's 100.3 expired, hence rebranding the station as 95.5 Hit Radio.[2]
On January 1, 2016, Hit Radio rebranded as Retro 95.5, which was also adapted later on by its Cebu counterpart 103.5 Retro Cebu. UMBN acquired the station from the Hodreal family. Due to broadcast ownership guidelines, DXKR's frequency license was assigned to UMBN's sister company Mt. Apo Broadcasting System.
