DSP Media

DSP Media (Hangul: DSP 미디어), is a South Korean entertainment company established in 1991 by Lee Ho-yeon. The company operates as a record label, talent agency, music production company, event management and concert production company, and music publishing house.

The label is home to prominent artists such as APRIL, Heo Young-ji, and KARD. It represented several pioneering groups, including SoBangCha, ZAM, COCO, Fin.K.L, Sechs Kies, SS501, KARA, Rainbow, and A-JAX. It also manages actors such as Lee Hyun-joo and Cho Shi-yoon and is home to former X1 member Son Dong-pyo.

History

Daesung Enterprise was founded in September 1991 by Lee Ho Yeon to provide entertainment to the public. One of their first Korean music groups was Firetruck (소방차). The group was a hit and is still loved by the older Koreans.

In February 1999, with the success of star groups like Sechs Kies and FIN.K.L., the company went through legal actions to rename itself as DSP Entertainment.

After merging with Hoshin Textile Company (호신섬유) in March 2006, DSP Entertainment was renamed DSP Enti.

In September 2008, DSP Enti was renamed DSP Media. By this time, the company became renowned for its success in the kpop music, Korean drama and TV show production industries.

In March 2010, Lee Ho Yeon suffered a stroke, after which his wife, Choi Mi-kyung began running the company. DSP was the biggest rival of SM Entertainment , but since then, the company's success had declined. Lee Ho-yeon's ability played a big role in the past success.

In the early morning of February 14, 2018, Lee Ho Yeon died at the age of 64, after a long battle with an illness. [1]

On November of 2019, three years after Rainbow disbanded, DSP Media announced their 10th anniversary reunion.[2]

  • 1Fin.K.L was formed in 1998. In 2006, the members parted with DSP Media. Although there is continued speculation on the status of the group, Fin.K.L has not officially broken up as a group.
  • 2Click-B was formed in 1999. Ha Hyun-gon, Yoo Ho-suk and No Min-hyuk left the group in 2002. They later promoted as a four member group until 2004 and as a three member group in 2006, although there is continued speculation on the status of the group, Click-B has not officially broken up as a group. They reunited as a seven member group with the release of two digital single in 2011, and then reunited again in 2015 releasing a single album and holding a concert.
  • 3In January 2014, Puretty officially disbanded with members Jeon Somin, Yoon Chaekyung and Cho Shiyoon remaining under DSP Media. Jeon Somin re-debuted with APRIL in 2015 before leaving the group in November the same year and debuted with K.A.R.D in December 2016. Yoon Chaekyung joined APRIL in November 2016. Cho Shiyoon is pursuing her acting career.
  • 4On January 15, 2016 KARA officially disbanded following the expiration contract of Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon and Goo Hara parted while Heo Youngji remained her solo career under DSP Media.
  • 5Sungmin left A-JAX in January 2016 to pursue his solo career.
  • 6On February 5, 2016 Jihu left A-JAX to pursue his acting career while Jaehyung terminated his contract with DSP Media and effectively left A-JAX.
  • 8Lee Hyun-joo temporarily went on hiatus from APRIL in May 2016 due to health issues. In October 2016, it was announced that Lee Hyun-joo officially left the group to pursue her acting career.
