Compass International School Doha is a private, co-educational school in Doha, Qatar. It is an International School with campuses located in Gharaffa, Madinat Khalifa, Rayyan and a new campus opening in September 2019 in Themaid. It was founded in 2006 by Fieldwork Education and the school is part of the Nord Anglia group of schools.

Madinat Khalifa Campus

Compass International School Doha is set across three campuses in Doha – Madinat Khalifa, Gharaffa and Rayyan. Gharaffa and Rayyan Campuses cater for children from Early Years 1 to Year 6 (3 to 11 years old) whilst Madinat Khalifa Campus is a Primary and Secondary School from Year 1 to Year 13 (5 to 18 years old). The new campus in Themaid educates students from the age of 3 to 18.

The Early Years programme offered at the Rayyan, Gharaffa and Themaid Campuses, brings together the power of two international programmes to lay a strong foundation for future learning: the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) and the topics and themes used in the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

The Primary School (Years 1 to 6) offerings at each campus draw from the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which allows young children to explore the wonders of reading and mathematics, as well as art, history, geography, music, sport, technology and science. The classroom curriculum is complemented by visits and trips to locations in the local area and beyond.

In Secondary School located at the Madinat Khalifa Campus, the English National Curriculum is the basis for Years 7 to 9 (between ages 11 and 14). The National Curriculum for England enables students to confidently transition from primary education to the IGCSE, and develops skills and confidence.

In Year 10, students at Madinat Khalifa, begin studying for their International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The International General Certificate of Secondary Education is an international version of the GCSE exams, which form part of the widely-recognised British Curriculum.

These exams provide a solid bridge to further study, such as the IB Diploma Programme, and gives children more autonomy to choose the subjects that inspire them. Students will study a range of subjects before sitting exams at the end of Year 11. The IGCSE exams are built on a number of core subjects. All students are required to take subjects such as Mathematics and English, while they will also study biology, chemistry and physics.

At age 16 and above (Years 12 and 13), students can apply to study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at the Madinat Khalifa Campus. This two-year course is an internationally recognised academic programme, building confidence and leadership as well as broadening the students’ understanding of world cultures.

The Secondary School in Themaid Campus offers IGCSEs and A-Levels.

The schools also teach Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History in line with the Supreme Education Council guidelines.

Collaborations

The Juilliard School

In February 2015, Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School announced a global collaboration to enhance performing arts education for students. The programme includes an embedded curriculum along with continued support and engagement with Juilliard alumni and affiliated artists. It also includes professional development for teachers, a summer school and private lessons. The partnership gives students a unique opportunity to learn about music through iconic works and regular connections with practicing musicians.

The curriculum focuses on key works of music, dance and drama.

CEO of Nord Anglia Education, Andrew Fitzmaurice, has criticized today's education for focusing too much on league tables and wants to "inspire children to engage with all their studies and develop a love of learning" through the Juilliard collaboration.

MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

In May 2016, Nord Anglia Education announced a global collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on STEAM subjects for K-12 students. The collaboration develops a new approach to implement science, technology, engineering, visual arts, and mathematics program across Nord Anglia Education schools worldwide. Core to the collaboration is the reflection of MIT's philosophy of 'Mens et Manus', 'mind and hand', which calls for a hands-on approach to problem solving. Students learn directly from lecturers and students at MIT. STEAM discipline teachers with Nord Anglia Education also benefit from unique professional development opportunities through annual workshops and ongoing training with MIT faculty, hosted by the MIT Museum The CEO of Nord Anglia Education, Andrew Fitzmaurice, said that the collaboration with MIT is intended to help students build skills for the 21st century. He has also said that subjects traditionally taught in school do not necessarily give the knowledge and skills needed in an ever-changing world and the greatest discoveries in our century exist at the cross-section of subjects, citing MIT's groundbreaking cancer research using nanotechnology to destroy cancer cells.

King's College London

In 2015, Nord Anglia partnered with King's College London to offer an Executive Master's in International Education. Courses are designed specifically to address challenges specific to international schools. The program is fully funded by Nord Anglia Education and available only to Nord Anglia Education teachers. Nord Anglia and King's College London states that the program will open up to teachers outside Nord Anglia schools in 2020. Fifty teachers will start the program in 2016. The aim of the program is to recruit, develop and retain high quality teachers. The program is a two-year, part-time masters program which is designed to teach effective leadership skills and feature online face-to-face modules.
