Charis Global School is a private National Plus school in Lippo Cikarang, Bekasi City, West Java, Indonesia. Essentially, the school programs are developed into three categories: Early Childhood Program (Nursery 1-2 and Kindergarten 1-2), Primary Program (Grade 1 to 6)[1] and Secondary Program (Grade 7 to 9).[2]

The school provides an English-medium education system besides Bahasa Indonesia as the language of instruction for Indonesian-based subjects. The student composition is primarily Indonesian but includes other nationalities. There are expatriate students mainly from Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia, and India.

History

Charis Global School was established in 2007 for local and expatriate students living in Lippo Cikarang.

The school has grown rapidly after initially opening only a pre-school level that offers the Early Childhood Programs. In 2009, the school started its Primary Program. The school changed its name to Charis Global School from Charis Global International School to comply with the Indonesian government's regulations on prohibiting the use of word "international" in school names.[3]

By 2016, the school had expanded into its Secondary Program.

Today the school has a total staff of about 70, out of which, 55 are teaching staff.

Curriculum

Charis Global School follows the National Curriculum[4] prescribed by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture in Primary and Secondary levels, and also adopts the Singapore education curriculum[5] for English-based subjects such as Math, Science, English language as well as Mandarin.

The school uses a wide range of teaching and learning methods to promote effective and engaged learning. For example, students are engaged in project-based learning. They also put up presentations to share their learning with their peers.

The school encourages participation in competitions, such as Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiads (SASMO),[6] American Mathematics Olympiads (AMO),[7] National Science Olympiad (OSN), etc.

Sports activities are conducted inside and outside the school area. For the gymnastic is conducted at the schoolyard. For the other sports activities such as basketball and swimming are conducted at the Sports center Lippo Cikarang.
There are a large number of CCTVs in all areas of the school.

Annual events and activities

Charis Global School has following activities as the part of the annual academic calendar:

  • School orientation
    The School allocates orientation for the new students at the beginning of the new term to ensure they become familiar with their new environment, and to get along with their teacher and other students.
  • School leadership program
    Leadership is a quality that all students at Charis Global School are encouraged and supported to develop. Through the School leadership program, each student takes on the role of leaders of their own learning. Through the curriculum and extracurricular activities, all students are encouraged to develop the skills necessary to be a leader.
  • Parent teacher meeting
    Parent-teacher conference gives an opportunity to increase communication between school and home, keep parents informed about their child's progress, and develop a plan for the student's future.
  • School Dental Health
    School Dental Visit
    To comply with the 2012 Ministry of Health regulation about School Dental Health programme, the school provides a dental visit programme to monitor the dental health of the students by working closely with other health professionals, parents and focusing on early intervention and prevention.[8][9]
  • Open House
    The school's doors are open to the general public to allow people to look around and learn about it. During the Open House, the school displays school activities such as student performances from each student clubs, a seminar for parents, etc. Some teachers may be willing to discuss individual students' progress with their parents.
  • School Overseas Immersion Program
    In line with the school vision that the Charis Global School is committed to nurturing Global citizens, the School Overseas Immersion Program is designed to develop key 21st-century competencies such as global awareness and cross-cultural skills and sensitivities of the students that will contribute towards preparing them to thrive in the age of globalization.[10]
  • Field trip
    Field trips are integral to the culture and program at Charis Global School. On almost any given school day, the students set out to learn about the world outside of the classroom. Field trips are important integrated elements within each grade's curriculum.
  • Independence day
    One of the annual events of Charis Global School is the Indonesian Independence day celebration. This event is celebrated by both local and expatriate students. Through this event, the students learned more about the history of Indonesia, the meaning of the 1945 proclamation for Indonesia, and how the Indonesian people celebrate Independence Day.
  • Religious holiday's Celebration
    Religious holidays are celebrated according to each student's faiths.
  • United Nations Day Celebration
    The students celebrate the United Nations Day to promote the peace, tolerance, and the respect of cultural diversity every year.
  • Final Project
    The final projects are carried out to promote and encourage the creativity of students to explore real-world problems and challenges, simultaneously developing cross-curriculum skills while working in small collaborative groups or individuals.
