Boon Lay Way

Boon Lay Way (Chinese: 文礼大道) is a major road in Jurong, Singapore, that goes from Commonwealth Avenue West all the way to Upper Jurong Road via the Jurong East and the Jurong West New Towns.

Etymology

Boon Lay Way, along with other roads within the Boon Lay estate, such as Jalan Boon Lay, Boon Lay Avenue, Boon Lay Drive and Boon Lay Place, were named after Chew Boon Lay (Chinese: 周文礼; pinyin: Zhōu wén lǐ), one of Singapore's early pioneers and a successful businessman, who used to own the land within the area.[1]

History

Boon Lay Way was opened on 17 July 1980; at a much thoroughfare between Jurong Town Hall Road and Corporation Road. In 1969, it was extended all the way to Jalan Boon Lay. This signals the start of the development of Jurong East New Town. Boon Lay Way had been finally connected with ease on 16 April 1999 by extending the route from Pioneer Road North to Upper Jurong Road, where subsequently it had been extended along Jurong West Neighbourhood 6 on 20 January 1998.
