Asylum, California

Asylum is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California.[1] It is located on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad just south of Ukiah,[2] at an elevation of 607 feet (185 m).[1]

Asylum has been noted for its unusual place name,[3] named after the now-closed lunatic asylum Mendocino State Asylum for the Insane[4] nearby, later renamed as the Mendocino State Hospital and today the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.
