Ankita Lokhande

Ankita Lokhande (born 19 Decmber 1984[2]) is an Indian actress who began her career in television with her breakthrough character in Balaji Telefilms's popular daily show Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV and won various awards for the same.[3] She was one of the highest paid actresses of television industry until she retired from there in 2018,[4] after her decision to plunge into film industry.

In 2019, Lokhande debuted her film career as brave warrior Jhalkaribai in the historical periodic movie Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.[5] She then appeared in Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment's 2020 moderately successful action thriller Baaghi 3.[6]

Family background

Lokhande was born on 19 December 1984 in Indore to Shashikant (a banker) and Vandana Pandis (a teacher) and has two younger siblings namely Sooraj and Jyoti.[7] After graduating as a state level badminton player in her college, she moved to Mumbai in 2005 to pursue her passion for acting.[2]

Personal life

Lokhande co-starred with Sushant Singh Rajput in Pavitra Rishta where they began dating each other in 2010. However, they broke up and parted ways in 2016.[8]

In 2019, she announced her relationship with her boyfriend Vicky Jain, a businessman. They got engaged on 11 June 2020.[9]

Career

Television works (2006–2013)

After a participation in Idea Zee Cinestars (2006–07), Lokhande bagged the lead role of Archana in Ekta Kapoor's popular daily soap Pavitra Rishta (2009–14). Her performance and chemistry with Rajput received various television awards, making her a household name.[10]

Along with Pavitra Rishta, Lokhande contested on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 4 in 2011. That year, she also participated in Comedy Circus.[11] In 2013, she appeared in episodic of Kapoor's mini-series Ek Thhi Naayka as Pragya.[12]

Pavitra Rishta took a generation leap that same year later, after which Lokhande also began playing Archana's granddaughter Ankita too along with Archana, till the series ended in 2014 and she decided to quit television to focus on her life.[13]

Plunge into films (2016–present)

In 2016, it was rumored that she will be a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historical movie Padmaavat.[14] However, she opted out of the project as she believed that she wasn't ready for a film debut.[15] In 2017, there were reports that Lokhande has been signed for director Girish Malik's upcoming film Torbaaz opposite Sanjay Dutt.[16] Later Malik denied this news and said that apart from Sanjay Dutt, no one else has been signed or even approached.[17]

After a hiatus of four years, she made her film debut in epic movie Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, in which she portrayed Warrior Jhalkaribai.[18]

She bagged a supporting role in Sajid Nadiadwala's film Baaghi 3, in which she played Shraddha Kapoor's elder sister. The action packed spiritual sequel was released in the first week of March 2020.[19]

In November 2019, Lokhande was offered to play the role of female lead in Rumi Jaffrey's Chehre after the original female lead Kriti Kharbanda opted out of the film.
