Agustín Destribats

Agustín Alejandro Destribats (born October 30, 1997) is an Argentinian freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestler.

Career

Destribats started wrestling when he was 9 years old in a local club that offered savate, capoeira and wrestling. In 2013 he won the South American Championships in both, freestyle and Greco-Roman and in 2014 he won gold in the Pan American Championships in the cadet and junior classes in freestyle.[1]

In 2019, Destribats competed at the 2019 Pan American Championships and took a bronze medal at 65 kg.[2]

In 2020, Destribats competed once again at the Pan American Championships, placing 3rd.

After the Pan American Championships, Destribats competed at the Pan American Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament, in which he placed second after pulling out of the championship match due to a knee injury that was caused during his match with Yianni Diakomihalis at the earlier tournament.[3] The silver medal qualified him to represent Argentina in the 2020 Summer Olympics.[4] Upon beating Zain Retherford at the Pan Ams, Destribats was the first male Argentinian to qualify for the Olympic Games since Paulo Ibire did in 1996.[5]
