Achola Rosario

Achola Rosario (born 28 October 1978) is an artist,[1] a reporter and a news anchor at Radio one.[2][3] Achola uses art, poetry and unconventional lifestyle to drive her activism on topics such as politics, love, sex and a balance of power between the haves and the have not's, the female and the male, the strong and the weak.[4] Achola writes for Independent Uganda.[5]

She is also an assistant producer for spectrum.[4] She is an award-winning entrepreneur.[6]

Background and education

Achola is from a background of traditional herbalist, doctors and dream interpreters, which is why her work often have dream-like qualities with layers of symbolism.[7]

She was one of the first students at the Ecole Françoise de Kampala.[4]

Achola Rosario completed her Ordinary and Advanced levels at Bedgebury Upper School for girls in England. While at the school, her favourite subjects were Art, Photography, literature and Chemistry practicals. She later joined American College in London and transferred to Luton University where she studied International Business Systems.[4] She attained a degree in International Business Systems from Kampala University in 2009. She won a school art prize before her graduation.[8]

Achola's dreams was to become an architect while growing up but she was never good enough at Math as a subject. She later found love for art.[4]

She trained in photography. She has been organizing exhibitions since 1999. Below is her selected exhibitions.[8]

Career

In her journalism life, she documents stories on societies norms and values after completing her studies from England and Uganda.[7]

Interest

She is an avid reader and is interested in different types of books. Achola spends time with her children, partner and family members during her free time as a way to bond.[4]

Her favorite books are "Failed states" by Noam Chomsky who was a social scientist who discusses the role of America as a super power, "The ground beneath her feet by Salman Rushdie,and etc. The book that changed Achola's life was "Possessing the secret of joy" by Alice Walker which led her into the road to self-discovery as an activist.[4]
