APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University

APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, also known as Kerala Technological University (KTU), is a state university located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It is both a teaching and affiliation university, with more than 150 affiliated colleges and over 1,60,000 students enrolled, having jurisdiction over the entire area of Kerala. It is an AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) and UGC (University Grants Commission) approved university that offers UG and PG courses under popular streams such as BTech, BArch, BHMCT, MTech, M.Arch, MBA, and MCA.

APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University is dedicated to offering engineering and technology related courses, and has advanced courses and syllabi compared to the courses offered by its predecessor, the old and reputed Kerala University. It is a relatively new and reformed university, with its first batch in 2015.It is infamous for failing a large proportion of it's students.

History

In 2014 May, KTU was established by the government of Kerala through an Ordinance.[2] Kuncheria P. Isaac, a former Member Secretary of the All India Council for Technical Education was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the Kerala Technological University, and M. Abdul Rahman, former All India Council for Technical Education Director, was appointed as the first Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The University was initially called as Kerala Technological University. The University was renamed in honor of the former president of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.[3][4][5]

Affiliated colleges

As of 2019, the university has more than 150 affiliated colleges with jurisdiction over the entire area of Kerala. These include constituent colleges, affiliated colleges, autonomous colleges and colleges with academic autonomy.[6]
