Difficult tests fell on the designer self-taught before he realized his dream. Kalashnikov was a tank commander in 1941, was severely wounded near Bryansk Front, and after that he could not return to the World War II. While I was in the hospital, I dreamed, made the first blueprints of weapons in a notebook and did not stop reproaching myself for staying behind. He worked at the plant, carried out the first tests in Kazakh SSR and participated in All-Union weapon contests along with other designers.
