  • 17 January – Gulf War: Iraq fires eight Scud missiles into Israel in an unsuccessful bid to provoke Israeli retaliation.
  • 22 January – Gulf War: Three Scuds and one Patriot missile fired to intercept them hit Ramat Gan in Israel, wounding 96 people; three elderly people die of heart attacks.[1]
