Off-season transactions

Enlisted the services of four rookies; Frankie Lim and Jose Yango, former members of the national team in the 1981 ABC championships and SEA games, Zaldy Latoza of APCOR and Melvin Martin of Jag Jeans in the MICAA.

Summary

Last year's Reinforced best import Russell Murray returns to the Esquires in the first conference of the season. Yco-Tanduay won their first two games, defeating Gilbey's, 112-105 on March 9 as they overcame Lew Massey's 61-point debut with the Ginsmakers, and Great Taste, 117-103 on March 13. [1] Yco-Tanduay finish at fifth in the standings with nine wins and nine losses. They were swept in two games by Toyota Super Corollas in the best-of-three quarterfinals.

In the Open Conference, the Esquires' two imports were 6-11 Jerome Henderson and 6-8 Curtis Berry. Yco-Tanduay finish third behind N-Rich Coffee and Gilbey's Gin with an 11-7 won-loss card after 18 games in the elimination phase. Going into the last playing date of the quarterfinal round on November 23, all four quarterfinalist are tied at one win and one loss each. The Esquires lost to Toyota Super Corollas and were eliminated from the four-team semifinals.
