In 2003, a Google Search website was made available for Guernsey, which still uses the .gg domain. The search engine DuckDuckGo uses the domain ddg.gg as a redirect to their main website, duckduckgo.com.[1][2]

Usage in video games

Multiple video game and esports websites use this domain, because "gg" is a common initialism used in multiplayer video games as an abbreviation for the phrase "good game", usually said at the end of a match.[3][4] For example, the VoIP application Discord, commonly used with multiplayer games, uses the domain discord.gg as a redirect to their main website, discord.com, as well as for Discord server invite links. The other example, OP.GG, a global game data analytics platform with tens of millions monthly active users since 2013, is also one of the pioneers that have popularized this domain in the video game and Esports industry, and many other game analytics sites started using ".gg" in their domain.
