Zunaid Ahmed Palak (Bengali: জুনাইদ আহ্‌মেদ‍ পলক), born on 17 May 1980 is a Bangladeshi politician. He was appointed as a Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Division, Bangladesh on 12 January 2014 at the age of 34 years making him the youngest Minister of Bangladesh.[1] I He was nominated Young Global Leader in 2016 by the World Economic Forum. At the age of 26, he got the nomination from Bangladesh Awami League, in the National Elections of 2006. In 2008 he was nominated again, and was elected by a big margin, becoming the youngest member of the ninth National Assembly of Bangladesh.[2] In June 2017 he was nominated as Chairman of the Advisory Committee of International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences (AIESEC), Bangladesh chapter.[3]

Early career and education

Palak was born in Faiz Uddin Ahmed-Zamila Ahmed family at Singra Upazila of Natore District. He is the youngest child of his parents. His father late Faiz Uddin Ahmed was a farmer and mother Zamila Ahmed was a housewife. His father was a political activist inspired by the ideology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur RahmanH. He was one of the organisers of the great war of independence in the Chalan beel area, as General Secretary of the Singra upazila unit of Bangladesh Awami League,

Palak was educated at Dhaka College with a MSS and then an LLB, and later became an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

In his early twenties, he followed his father's footsteps in politics and became a member of the Bangladesh Awami League party.[4]

The Vice-Chairman of All-Party Parliamentary Groups, which includes Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jatiya Party, he is also a key member of the Committee of Climate Change and Environment, with the support from United Nations Development Program and Oxfam, and one of the APPG delegation members headed by Saber Hossain Chowdhury, participated in the IPCCC conference in July 2009 before the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference at the House of Commons of the United Kingdom in London. Ahmed said that for lawmakers it's very important to know the reasons of any sort of natural calamity before trying to prevent it. He also talked about the dynamics of climate change, its affects to mass people so that the population both educated and illiterate can have a huge general conscious about it.[5] Ahmed also was a committee member where he planned to incorporate "Green Technologies" into its office building principles, to reduce carbon emissions into the environment. He said that the building of offices and residences using green technology would not release any carbon to the environment, while the wastes of houses and offices will be recycled and to produce energy. He also expressed that a delegation from India was on their way to discuss different technological issues including the building of zero carbon emitting buildings. He further added:[6]

We asked the ministry concerned to take a pilot project to build its office building using green technology as part of the initiative. Several other lawmakers and I shared our experience of recent visit to the southern state of Karnataka and West Bengal of India where we saw offices and houses were built using green technology.

Family

Palak is married and has three children.
