Xtep International Holdings Limited (Chinese: 特步; pinyin: Tèbù) is a publicly traded sportswear firm headquartered in Hong Kong and Xiamen, Fujian, China. It is engaged in the design, development, manufacture and sales of athletic shoes and sporting goods under the "Xtep" brand.[1]

History

Xtep was founded in Quanzhou, Fujian, China in 1999 by Ding Shuipo.[2][3]

It was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June 2008, raising US$285 million in the offering.[4]

On 18 January 2010, Xtep released a press statement confirming they had secured a five-year kit sponsorship deal worth around £7m with English Premier League club Birmingham City.[5] Birmingham's vice chairman Peter Pannu hailed the deal as "the biggest sponsorship the club has acquired" and stated that "Xtep are big players in the sportswear market in China and this partnership will expand the Birmingham City FC brand in the Far East."[6]

On 22 July 2011, Xtep announced a five-year cooperation agreement with Spanish La Liga club Villarreal CF for a kit sponsorship deal.[7]

The Birmingham City deal was scrapped in June 2012, however, after disputes over supply problems and unauthorised use of the club's intellectual property by Xtep.[8]
