The Wright Solar Fusion is a type of low floor articulated bus body built on the Scania L94UA chassis by Wrightbus. It is the articulated version of the Wright Solar. Only 11 were produced with Go North East purchasing four, First Manchester purchasing one (X401 CSG), Doig's of Glasgow purchasing one (SJ51 LPA) and Nottingham City Transport, five. One of Nottingham City Transport's Solar fusions, FE02 AKV (704) was preserved by Nottingham Heritage Vehicles and another, FP51 EXN (702) was converted into a Library for Alderman Pounder Infant School and remains there on the school grounds.
The Solar Fusion shares a similar bodywork style to the Wright Eclipse Fusion with the main differences being the window and seating before the rear exit doors, full rear window due to a different engine layout to the Eclipse Fusion.
Solar Fusions, like other older Wright Bus models are fitted with gates on the rear exit doors to prevent fare evaders as they only open outward for passengers exiting the bus. This feature was later removed during the production of the 2005 Eclipse Fusions and on the Wright StreetCar, but was always present on all 11 Solar Fusions.
First Manchester's X401 CSG was involved in an accident in 2016 on the M60 motorway with no casualties and was later scrapped after being stored at Manchester's Oldham depot.[1][2]
