Wicklow Round
The Wicklow Round is a long distance hill running challenge around the Wicklow Mountains in County Wicklow, Ireland.[1] The route is a circuit of over 100 kilometres, taking in 26 summits with a total climb of over 6,000 metres.[2] The Round must be completed within 24 hours to be considered a success.[1] It was first completed in 2009 by Moire O’Sullivan, who wrote a book about the experience.[3][4]
While parts of the round may be done on trails, there are major route choices to be made, some condition-dependent.[5] Proper equipment is essential.[6]
The Route
Much of the route runs through the Wicklow Mountains National Park. The highest summit in Leinster (Lugnaquilla) is included. The Round must be completed in the order below.
