Westcliff High School for Boys is a selective academy grammar school for boys aged 11 to 18 in Westcliff-on-Sea, near Southend-on-Sea, Essex and surrounding areas. In September 2001 the school was awarded "Beacon" status[1] for its breadth of achievements and quality of work. The school was classed as a "Humanities College" in early 2007 and received a further specialism in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) on 1 April 2009.[2] The school converted to academy status in 2010. As of late, a new sixth form building was completed in a refurbishment task. In the same renewal task, the science building has undergone a complete refurbishment, completed in 2017. The laboratories were renewed along with an updated external façade. The school’s Technology block has started its renovation plan and is due for completion in 2019
