We Never Learn (ぼくたちは勉強ができない, Bokutachi wa Benkyō ga Dekinai) is a Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Taishi Tsutsui. It started serializing in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on February 6, 2017 with the individual chapters collected and published by Shueisha into seven tankōbon volumes as of July 2018.[2] Viz Media licensed the manga in North America and serialized it in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.[3] On March 30, 2018, Viz Media announced that it will publish the manga in print later that year.[4] An anime television series adaptation by Studio Silver and Arvo Animation has been announced.[5]

Plot

The manga follows the story of Nariyuki Yuiga as he tutors three geniuses of different subjects in highschool to get a scholarship. Fumino Furuhashi is a genius on literature but horrible in math, Ogata Rizu is a genius on mathematics and science but literature and arts are terrible subjects for her and Uruka Takemoto is a genius in the athletic field but really bad in all the others. Together, they study very hard and want to get better at their worst subjects while Fumino and Ogata wants to go to college and work on these subjects for life. As the girls work hard with Nariyuki to achieve their academic goals, they also must deal with their growing feelings for him.

Characters

Nariyuki Yuiga (唯我 成幸, Yuiga Nariyuki)
The male protagonist of the series and a 3rd year. In order to receive the special VIP nomination, he is tasked to get 3 geniuses into their college of choice.
Fumino Furuhashi (古橋 文乃, Furuhashi Fumino)
One of the female protagonists and a 3rd year. A genius in the field of literature and arts, but panics over the simplest mathematic questions.
Rizu Ogata (緒方 理珠, Ogata Rizu)
One of the female protagonists and a 3rd year. A genius in the field of mathematics and science, but the direct opposite in literature and arts.
Uruka Takemoto (武元 うるか, Takemoto Uruka)
One of the female protagonists and a 3rd year. A genius in the athletic field, especially swimming, but she's hopelessly bad in everything else.
Mafuyu Kirisu (桐須 真冬, Kirisu Mafuyu)
A teacher of Ichinose Academy, and Rizu and Fumino's first tutor.
Asumi Kominami (小美浪 あすみ, Kominami Asumi)
An alumnus of Ichinose Academy. She's trying to get into to the national medicine school program despite her lackluster grades in science.
Sawako Sekijou (関城佐和子, Sekijou Sawako)
A 3rd year student in Ichinose Academy and the president of the chemistry club. She admires Rizu Ogata.
Miharu Kirisu (桐須美春, Kirisu Miharu)
The younger sister of Mafuyu Kirisu. She's a perfectionist amateur skater.

Written and illustrated by Taishi Tsutsui, We Never Learn was launched in the 10th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on February 6, 2017.[6] Viz Media announced their license of the manga for English release in North America in April 2017, which serializes it digitally in their Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.[3]

Anime

An anime television series adaptation was announced in the 39th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump on August 27, 2018. The anime series is directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki and written by Gō Zappa, featuring co-animation by Studio Silver and Arvo Animation and character designs by Masakatsu Sasaki.[5]
