}} Watari Station (亘理駅, Watari-eki) is a railway station operated by JR East in the town of Watari, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.

Lines

Watari Station is served by the Jōban Line, and is located 334.6 rail kilometers from the official starting point of the line at Nippori in Tokyo.

Watari Station has two opposed side platforms connected to the station building by a footbridge. The station has a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office.

History

Watari Station opened on November 10, 1897. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987. Following severe damage in the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami operation on the Joban Line between Hamayoshida Station and Soma Station are currently suspended, and are not expected to resume until after 2017.[1]

In fiscal 2016, the JR East portion of the station was used by an average of 2,135 passengers daily (boarding passengers only).[2] The Abukuma Express portion of the station was used by an average of 1,195 passengers daily in FY2015.
