The Volkswagen Ameo (pronounced [ˈfɔlksˌvaːgən ˈamːeoː]) is a subcompact sedan launched by the German manufacturer Volkswagen in Indian markets on 5 June 2016. Made in India and sold in Indian markets in the subcompact sedan^[1] segment, it is marketed as "German engineering with an Indian heart". The Ameo comes under the Make in India scheme.

The Ameo is the first ever B segment sedan from Volkswagen, plugging in the gap between other two offerings in India, being the Volkswagen Polo and the Volkswagen Vento.

Engine

Volkswagen powered the Ameo sedan with a 1.2 litre (1198cc) petrol engine which produces power of 74 bhp@5400rpm and peak torque of 110Nm@3750rpm. The Ameo is powered by a 1.5 litre TDi engine, that develops 108 hp and 250 Nm of torque, which makes it the most powerful diesel compact sedan in the country.

The car is transmitting its power with help of a five speed manual gearbox and seven speed DSG. This compact sedan is able to deliver fuel efficiency of 15 km/l in city and 17 km/l on the highway.^[2]

Specifications and Features

Volkswagen Ameo is designed aesthetically with stylish exteriors and comfy interiors of the German technology. Front dual-beam headlamps, company badge mounted on the front grille, fog lamps giving sleek looks to the front of Ameo. Side profile carries stylish alloy wheels, electrically adjustable wing mirror with turn indicator and tail lamps at the rear which make the Volkswagen Ameo outstanding.

Interiors of the car has infotainment system, steering wheel wrapped with leather material, first in class rain sensing wipers, cruise control, rear AC vents, foldable rear seats, dual tone interiors and ambient lighting that is giving a classy finish to the Ameo from inside.

Safety features

For the safety purpose, Volkswagen integrated the Ameo sedan with driver and co passenger airbags, reverse parking camera and sensors, anti-pinch windows, anti-lock braking system (ABS) standard in all variants and many others.^[3]
