Plot

The film begins in a prosperous village Ratnapuri which is the border of two kingdoms Vijethapuram & Visalapuram. Ratnapuram is officially given to Vijethapuram three generations back by Visalapuram with a written charter. But in this generation, Visalapuram king Narendra Varma (Mukkamala) tries to grab the village because entire grain required from the country is supplied by this village for which both sides of people will be fighting. Every year during the time of harvest season the soldiers from Visalapuram are looting the village. But this time a young dynamic guy Pratap (N. T. Rama Rao) fights against them and saves the village. After that, Pratap starts for Vijethapuram to plead the king Vishnuvardhana Maharaju (Mikkilineni) to protect the village. On the way, Pratap saves Padmini Devi (B. Saroja Devi), the princess of Vijethapuri who is attacked by Visalapuram’s soldiers and takes her to palace. Vishnuvardhana appreciates Pratap's loyalty and keeps the responsibility of protecting Ratnapuri in his hands. Pratap trains all the villagers as soldiers. At the same time, he fell in love with Padmini.

Parallelly, Vishnuvardhana sends his army chief commander Ajay Simhudu (Satyanarayana) to save Ratnapuri. But he is trapped by Narendra Varma and attracted towards his luring. Ajay goes to the village as a spy to Visalapuram in the name Sippai Chinnaiah. In the village, Ajay traps Pratap's sister Madhavi (Devika). Pratap comes to know the love affair of Ajay & Madhavi, so, he performs their marriage. Ajay leaves for capital after making Madhavi pregnant. Meanwhile, Vishnuvardhana dies, by handing over the charter to Padmini. Ajay tries to snatch charter along with Madhavi & kingdom. Pratap starts to the capital along with his sister Madhavi to meet Ajay. He leaves her in a choultry and goes to the fort. Ajay learns about this, so, takes away Madhavi and throws her into the waterfall. Fortunately, she was saved by Ajay's mother (Santha Kumari). After knowing his sister's death Pratap goes into depression, Padmini consoles him and pleads him to save her and her kingdom. Ajay throws the blame for stealing charter on Pratap and he gets punished for hanging but villagers save him.

Simultaneously, Ajay makes a conspiracy to grab the kingdom along with Padmini and also plans to give the charter to Nagendra Varma. Padmini escapes and reaches Pratap, both will somehow get back the charter. Nagendra Varma warns Ajay to get it within one week. Ajay comes home and he is surprised to see Madhavi in his house with a baby boy. Ajay asks her to get charter from Pratap. Due to the love & affection of his sister Pratap handovers charter to her. Ajay takes it, throws Madhavi on road and also kidnaps Padmini. Ajay's mother comes to know regarding this because her husband is a true royal soldier she stands for piety. She moves towards the fort along with Madhavi when Ajay is making his crowning ceremony and decides to give Ratnapuri to Visalapuram. At that time, Pratap attacks the fort with villagers, protects Padmini and reveals the charter to the public that Ratnapuri belongs only to Vijethapuram. In the final battle when Pratap is about to kill Ajay Madhavi stops him, Ajay throws the knife on Pratap but unfortunately, his mother comes between and dies. People stamp out Narendra Varma & his soldiers. Then Ajay realizes his mistake and asks Pratap to give punishment for his sins, he leaves judgment to Padmini and she gives him a punishment of lifelong imprisonment at Ratnapuri as a protector.
