Veselin Jevrosimovic (Serbian Cyrillic: Веселин Јевросимовић; born 1966)[1] is an influential businessman in Serbia who is known for being the owner and chairman of the IT company ComTrade Group.[2][3] Referred to as the “Serbian Bill Gates”,[4] he also owns the digital media publication Telegraf.rs, headquartered in Belgrade, and is the president of the Athletic Association of Serbia.


Background

Born in Belgrade to a working-class family, Jevrosimovic was a sprinter for the national junior track and field team.[5] He then studied electrical engineering in Serbia and management at the University of Florida.[6][7] In addition to living in the United States, he resided in Düsseldorf, Germany for 8 years.[8][9] He was previously married to Ines Pokimica and they have one daughter.[10][11] His second wife is Anja Aleksic with whom he has a son.[12][13] In 2013, a bomb was thrown at one of his homes in Serbia.[14] He also owns real estate in Miami.[15]

Career

Jevrosimovic's career in technology began in 1986, when he became co-owner of a business that distributed IT equipment in Germany.[16] Starting in 1991, he was a partner for five years in CHS Electronics, before leaving to found the Serbian company ComTrade Group in 1996.[17][18] The firm is mostly known for selling computers and tablets, having come up with the first Serbian desktop and notebook in 2006.[19] However, in addition to hardware, ComTrade currently focuses on offering software solutions to institutions and corporations. According to Jevrosimovic, his company's specialty is software development for large storage systems, as well as producing on-line games of chance.[20]

ComTrade wrote the code for the warehouse robots used at Amazon.com. It also developed the software infrastructure at Ryanair and various luggage transport systems.[21][22] In 2015, the company joined CERN as an associate member and now manages the nuclear research lab's database.[23][24] In 2016, the firm partnered with Citrix to develop management packs for their platforms.[25] Additionally, ComTrade has the largest artificial intelligence division in South Eastern Europe.[26]

The company has offices in New York, San Francisco, Budapest, Ireland and the Philippines.[27] In 2008, it acquired the Slovenian software firm Hermes Softlab. In 2014, ComTrade Group launched the Tesla brand of tablets, smartphones and TVs. In 2016, ComTrade Software, a subsidiary of ComTrade Group, launched its international headquarters in Boston.[28] In 2017, Jevrosimovic opened the parent company's 18th office in the city of Dubai, as well as a technology center in Cacak.[29] Comtrade employs 1,200 software engineers and has been a member of the World Economic Forum since 2009.[30]

In addition to his IT services company, Jevrosimovic owns a private college in Serbia that trains software engineers.[31] He has also been president of the Athletic Association of Serbia since 2009, building 15 stadiums and organizing the 2017 European Athletics Championship.[32][33] In 2012, he became a member of Serbia's Olympic Committee.[34] As owner of Telegraf.rs, Jevrosimović regularly contributes to a column for the technology section of the Serbian digital newspaper.[35][36] Additionally he owns the Majik Cafe in Belgrade, which was designed by Karim Rashid.[37]

Awards and distinctions

In 2008, Jevrosimović became the first Serb to be recognized as an honorary citizen of Boston, for his company's contributions to the city's economy.[38][39] As for awards, he has been recognized for being a "Top Manager of Southeastern Europe", an "IT Industry Legend (Monte Carlo)",[40] and the "Most Innovative Investor in Southeastern Europe".[41] In 2017, Jevrosimovic attended the inauguration of American President Donald Trump.[42]
