University of Sustainable Environmental Studies and Applied Research

University of Sustainable, Environmental Studies and Applied Research (formerly known as University of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and initially called Eastern Regional Public University) is a proposed public tertiary educational institution to be built in the Eastern Region of Ghana.[1][2]

History

Plans for the setting up of the institution were conceived after independence by Kwame Nkrumah the first President of Ghana.[3]

Proposed sites

Three major sites have been made available for the buildings of the university. The sites all located in the Eastern Region are Somanya, Krobo Odumase and land dotted on the Akosombo-Tema Highway.[4]

Oversight Committee

In April 2013, President John Mahama inaugurated a twelve-member committee to oversee the securing of land and the construction and development of the university.[2] The members were:

  • Dr Christina Amoaku-Nuama, the Convener
  • Dr Raymond Bening, Chairman
  • Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang the Minister of Education
  • Helen Ntoso, the Eastern Regional Minister .
  • Solomon Asoalla, from the Ministry of Energy
  • Dr Pascal Atendam, College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences of the University of Ghana
  • Daasebre Dr Oti Boateng, Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional area
  • Dr Osei Kofi Darkwa, President of the Ghana Telecom University College
  • Dr Kwame Dattey, Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board
  • Professor Mahama Duweijua, Executive Secretary of the Council for Tertiary Education
  • Dr Paul Effah, a Higher Education Consultant
  • Dr Nicholas Iddi, from the University of Environment,Science, Technology and Innovation.
