Umashankar Singh is an Indian politician and a member of 17th Legislative Assembly, Uttar Pradesh of India. He represents the Rasra constituency in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Umashankar Singh, a Rajput,born in a farmer family in Khanwar a village of Rasra, Uttar Pradesh completed his basic education in government schools and joined Satish Chand College ballia [4] He started his career as a student leader and contested student union election in SC college in year 1991 and won the election by highest margin ever.
Political career
Umashankar Singh contested Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election in 2017 as Bahujan Samaj Party candidate and defeated his close contestant Ram Iqbal Singh from Bharatiya Janata Party with a margin of 33,887 votes. He won 2012 Assembly election too by very huge margin.
As a Social Worker
He is one of the most famous Politician of Ballia, Most followed politician in UP Eastern region[5] people love him, calls him garibon ka messiah, he has contributed a lot to the society, in February 2016 he organized group marriages of 351 Hindu, Muslim couples which in itself is a record.[6][7]
Since January 1, 2017, MLA Umashankar Singh started free 40 wi-fi hotspots for the public to use, all free of cost in Rasra ,Ballia constituency.[8]
Controversy
When he started his political career in 2012, after a successful career as a contractor his opponents came together and in jealousy, filed too many complaints against him, his very close a family member filed first complaint that he is taking benefits of two different posts a MLA and contractor.
Governor Ram Naik in January 2017 disqualified BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh from his membership of the state Assembly for procuring government contracts in his name. His disqualification will be with retrospective effect from March 6, 2012 when he had become member of the UP Assembly.
When he won his very first election by a very huge margin be defeating his close contestant Sangram Singh yadav, Mr Umashankar singh is youth icon of ballia[9]
