Uline is a privately held United States company which offers shipping and other business supplies. The company has 6,000 employees. Headquartered in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Uline has distribution centers in Chicago, Minneapolis, Allentown, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, Mexicali, and Monterrey.

History

Uline was founded in 1980 by Liz and Richard Uihlein.[1] After recognizing a local need for a shipping supply distributor, the Uihleins started Uline from their basement. The company's first product was the H-101 carton sizer.[2] It sold well and encouraged the Uihleins to add more products to the catalog the following year.

In 2014, the privately held company was estimated to have $2 billion in revenue[3] and has more than 6,000 employees.[1] Liz Uihlein is reported to be more active in the company than her husband. The Uihleins' son, Brian, also works for Uline.[1] The company requires men to wear ties; tattoos are discouraged.[1] The company is not believed to have a communications department and maintains a low profile on social media, but does advertise extensively online.[1]

Locations

Uline has distribution centers near Chicago; Minneapolis; Allentown, Pennsylvania; Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; Los Angeles; Atlanta; Dallas and Seattle. There are also locations in Mexicali and Monterrey, Mexico, and near Toronto and Edmonton, Canada.[2]

Headquarters

The Uline headquarters is located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin on 200 acres.[1] It has two buildings, the first built is 279,000 square feet and the newest addition is 300,000 square feet[1] and was approved for construction in February 2016.[4]
