Vietnam has recognized Ukrainian state on 27 December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 23 January 1992. Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Ukraine started its operations in 1993. Embassy of Ukraine in Vietnam was opened in 1997.

Political and economic relations

Vietnam maintains good relations with Ukraine when Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union, that is due to largely existence of Vietnamese people in Ukraine and Ukraine is also the main source of military equipments selling to Vietnam.

When the Ukrainian crisis started in 2013, Vietnam maintains neutral, however.

Vietnamese community in Ukraine

Vietnamese people in Ukraine, although small in number, is among the largest in Europe, with over 50.000 to 100.000 Vietnamese living in Ukraine. Ukrainians regard the Vietnamese community positively, based on historical common between two.[1] The Vietnamese community also serves as a bridge connection between the Vietnamese in other Slavic nations such as Poland, Russia and Czech Republic, where large Vietnamese diasporas exist.
