USS Iwo Jima (CV-46) was a planned member of the Essex-class aircraft carriers of World War II. Newport News Shipbuilding[1] began construction of the vessel in early 1945, but on August 11, the Navy cancelled the contract.[2] She remained in an unfinished state until 1949, when her hull was scrapped before ever being launched.[3]
