Tovino Thomas(Malayalam : ടോവിനോ തോമസ്) (born 21 January 1989) is an Indian film actor and model who appears predominantly in Malayalam films.[1]

Tovino Thomas began his career as a fashion model and appeared in many commercials. Tovino was selected as one of the most desirable men by Kochi Times in 2013.[2] He made his acting debut in 2012 with the Malayalam film Prabhuvinte Makkal. He got noticed for playing the villain role in ABCD (2013). After acting in several supporting roles in films such as 7th Day (2014), Koothara (2014), You Too Brutus (2015), Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), Charlie (2015), and Guppy (2016), the commercial success of Oru Mexican Aparatha (2017), Godha (2017), Mayaanadhi (2017) made him one of the upcoming young leading actors of Malayalam cinema. In 2018 Theevandi movie became blockbuster and got his better opening first day collection in Kerala box office.[3] Tovino won his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Ennu Ninte Moideen, and then he also won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, Behindwoods Critics Award for Best Actor , NAFA award for Outstanding Performance and Youth Award for Mayaanadhi.

Career

Tovino appeared as a model for the advertisements of Silver Storm Water Theme Park, Athirappilly and Indulekha Hair Care Oil. Prabhuvinte Makkal directed by Sajeev Anthikkad in 2012, was his debut film.[4] Tovino played the role of Akhilesh Verma, the lead antagonist, in ABCD, directed by Martin Prakkat.[5] Tovino played a lead role in Roopesh Peethambaran's directorial venture You Too Brutus.[6]

Tovino worked as an assistant director for Roopesh Peethambaran's Theevram during its pre-production stages.[7] In 2014, Tovino appeared alongside Mohanlal in the film Koothara.[8] He portrayed the role of Perumparambil Appu in the film Ennu Ninte Moideen which was released in 2015 and garnered critical acclaim.[9] He played the role of Thejus Varky in Guppy (2016). Tovino won the New Sensational Hero Award at the NAFA 2017 for his performance in the film.[10]

In 2017, Tovino starred in a supporting role of a cop in the horror film Ezra, starring Prithviraj. The film grossed 50 crore at the box office. His next release was Oru Mexican Aparatha, in which he played the protagonist Pauly, a college politician. The film was directed by Tom Emmatty and based on the victory of SFI in a college union election at Maharajas College. The film was a box office success. His next film was the sports comedy-drama, Godha, directed by Basil Joseph.Tovino announced his own production company with his director John paul george and named it Guppy.[11] Tharangam (2017) released on 29 September got rave reviews from critics and it was one of its kind black humor genre directed by Arun Dominic. Later, Mayaanadhi (2017) released on December and became the Christmas winner with great reviews. Film got big appreciation from everyone and the combo of Tovino - Aiswarya Lekshmi worked out well. He is playing a villain role in Maari 2 with Dhanush is playing the protagonist

Personal Life

Tovino was born into a Catholic[12] family in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur as the younger son of Adv. Ellikkal Thomas and Sheela Thomas. His siblings Tingston and Dhanya are his source of inspiration. He completed his schooling from Don Bosco High School, Irinjalakuda[13][14] and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He later worked in Cognizant Technologies[14] as a software engineer. During his college life he was into fitness and modelling.[15]

Tovino married his longtime girlfriend, Lidiya at St. Thomas Cathedral, Irinjalakuda, on 25 October 2014. The duo had met during their school days and married after ten years[16] They have a daughter named Izza Tovino born on 11 January 2016.[17]

Social causes

Tovino Thomas is the brand ambassador of Irinjalakuda Heritage Half Marathon.[18] Tovino also had been active in social causes including rendering support to activists indulged in social issues.[19]
