Miguel Ferreira da Costa, born 1954 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil),[1] known as Dom Tomás de Aquino, is the prior of the Holy Cross Monastery in Nova Friburgo (Rio de Janeiro State), a refuge for priests who have left the Society of Saint Pius X.
He entered the Abbey of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux in Vaucluse, France, in 1974 and took the name Thomas Aquinas. He was ordained a priest in 1980 in Écône by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. In 1987, he and a group of monks from la Barroux left to Brazil to start the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Nova Friburgo.[2]
He is a traditionalist bishop with the "Marcel Lefebvre Priestly Union" (see: SSPX resistance). Bishops Richard Williamson and Jean-Michel Faure consecrated him a bishop,[3][4] 19 March 2016.
