Tobias Iaconis (born 21 February 1971) is a German American screenwriter. His writing partner is Mikki Daughtry. He is best known for writing Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia (2009) and the upcoming film The Curse of La Llorona (2019).

Career

In 2009, Iaconis was the writer of Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia[1] for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, starring Joe Manganiello and Ken Anderson. Previously he had written an unproduced sequel to Timecop for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and in 2010 he wrote an unproduced sequel to Shooter for Paramount Famous Productions.

After partnering with Mikki Daughtry in 2012, they adapted the Jack Kilborn action-horror novel Afraid, and in 2013, their spec script Elsewhere made the Black List (a survey of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays).[2] In 2014, they were hired to write an English-language remake of Sleep Tight (Spanish: Mientras duermes, "While You Sleep"), a Spanish thriller-horror film directed by Jaume Balagueró.

In 2015, Iaconis and Daughtry sold a thriller pitch, The Children, to New Line Cinema.[3] The film began principal photography in October 2017 and stars Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, Patricia Velasquez, Jaynee Lynne Kinchen, and Roman Christou.[4][5][6][7] Michael Chaves is the director.[8] In July 2018, the movie's final title was announced,The Curse of La Llorona, and a release date was set for April 19, 2019.[9]

In January 2017, Iaconis and Daughtry sold a pitch for Five Feet Apart, a young adult-themed pitch to CBS Films for Justin Baldoni to produce and direct.[10] In January 2018, it was announced that Cole Sprouse would be playing a lead role in the film (making it the first film role of his adult career), and that Academy Award-winner Cathy Schulman would be producing.[11] In April 2018, it was announced that Haley Lu Richardson and Moises Arias joined the cast.[12][13] The film commenced principal photography in May 2018[14] and has a release date of March 22, 2019.[15] A novel based upon the screenplay, written by Rachael Lippincott, will be published by Simon & Schuster on November 22, 2018.[16]

In November 2017, Iaconis and Daughtry were included in The Young and Hungry List 2017 (a list of Hollywood's top 100 new writers).[17]

Personal life

Tobias was born on a U.S. Army Base in Landstuhl, Germany; he is a dual citizen of both the United States and Germany.[18]

He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
