The Voice Senior (TVS in short) is a German music talent show based on the concept of The Voice of Germany, created by John de Mol. However, participation is only open for candidates of more than 60 years old.[1] It will begin airing on Sat.1 in winter 2018. The coaching panel consists of familiar faces from The Voice of Germany and The Voice Kids, including Mark Forster, The BossHoss, Yvonne Catterfeld and Sascha Schmitz.[2]
The Voice Senior Germany is the third version of The Voice Senior produced worldwide, after the original Netherlands version and the Russian version.
Concept
The show adopts the same format as The Voice of Germany, but only four episodes are planned.
The Blind Auditions
Similar to multiple The Voice version, in the Blind Audition the contestant sings in front of the coaches and the live audience in the studio. Since the coaches' chairs turn their backs to the stage, they can only hear and cannot see the contestant. By pressing the red button in front of them, the chair turns towards the stage, thus the contestant is chosen to join the coach's team. If a contestant receive more than one chair turn, he/she will have the right to choose which team they want to join.
The Blind Audition is taped at Studio Adlershof in Berlin.
The Knockouts
In the second phase, two or three contestants of the same team perform a song together. Only one of them is selected by their coach to advance to the next round.
the Live Finale
In the last phase, the live final, the last two contestants first compete against each other within their team. The respective coach then makes the decision as to which artist moves into the top 4. Then the four remaining artists from each team sings a second song, this time the televoting will determine who will be The Voice Senior winner.
Development and production
On December 17, 2017, Sat.1 announced they will produce a new singing competition for singers over the age of 60, which entitled Talpa's The Voice Senior.[3] On June 29, 2018; the coaching panel for the first season was confirmed with Mark Forster, The BossHoss, Yvonne Catterfeld, all of whom have been coaches in the adult version; and Sascha Schmitz, who was previously a coach on The Voice Kids.
Current hosts of The Voice Kids, Thore Schölermann and Lena Gercke, appointed as hosts for the first season.
