The Tivoli is an indoor theatre, music venue and event space located in Brisbane, Australia with a seating capacity of 700. The Tivoli can hold up to 1,500 people standing.

In 2016 the venue was purchased by brothers Steve and Dave Sleswick after being earmarked for development.

The Tivoli Theatre was originally built as Adams Bakery in 1917 and boasted the finest gourmet cakes in Queensland. It was later used by the State Library to store rare books, but with Expo ‘88 reverberating in the city, a new owner, Ann Garms transformed it into The Tivoli Restaurant and Theatre - modeled on the Paradis Latin in Paris (1803) one of France’s most famous cabaret theatres. In August 1989, the venue opened with Putting on the Ritz, a show celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood and the biggest hits from legendary composers George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter.

Ann incorporated materials rescued from two demolished Queen Street theatres – plaster pieces from the Regent Theatre, and beautiful plaster angel air vents from Her Majesty’s Theatre. They’re still there.

Today, The Tiv retains its stunning art deco features and old world charm and is widely considered to be one of the world's most beautiful performance venues. It has played host to prolific Australian musical heroes such as Powderfinger and The Go-Betweens, along with major international artists such as Bob Dylan, Shirley Bassey, Marianne Faithfull, Katie Perry, Taylor Swift, PJ Harvey, Antony and the Johnsons, Sigur Ros, Slash, Ice Cube, Nick Cave, Missy Higgins, Robyn Archer and Paul Kelly (just to name a few…)

2017 marks the buildings 100-year anniversary. In 2017, Brisbane Festival will partner with The Tivoli, continuing to create history with a decadent program of local and international work.
