The Room: Old Sins is a puzzle video game developed by Fireproof Games, and the fourth game in their series, The Room. It was released for mobile platforms in January 2018.[1]

Gameplay

Old Sins opens with the player, an investigator, exploring the attic of a dark, creepy house for some kind of artifact. The first main task is to switch on a floodlight, which then illuminates a huge, immaculately detailed dollhouse. The dollhouse has essentially been turned into one massive, intricately connected puzzle box, and the players start to understand the breadth of it.

Plot

The game takes place in the attic of Waldegrave Manor. The players are there to look for a couple, an ambitious engineer and his high-society wife who went missing, and have searched the entire mansion except for the attic. That is where the game starts, with a creepy dollhouse in the attic waiting to be explored.

Development and release

Like previous titles, The Room: Old Sins was developed using the Unity game engine. The game was announced on 6 March 2017 and was released on iOS on 23 January 2018.[2] When discussing the delay for Android version, Fireproof games explained there were multiple reported bugs that required to be fix first on the iOS version before they could focus on the Android version. They further noted that there are a large number of devices with wider range in CPI speeds, memory sizes and Screen resolutions including the more active versions of that operating system and customized versions that device manufactures supply. Fireproof Games revealed their approach to handling the situation is get a solid representative set by picking a baseline of minimum capabilities. For The Room: Old Sins specifically, they've restricted themselves to OpenGL ES3.0, making it easier for them to develop the game. After that they hire a dedicated Quality Assurance company to test the game. Last step before android release on 19 April was the open beta.[3]
