TheBus (stylized as THE BUS) is a bus transportation system serving Prince George's County, Maryland, providing weekday-only service. There are 29 bus routes, with most operating between Washington Metro stations in the county, with two routes running to Upper Marlboro. The fare is $1.25, but seniors (age 60+), the disabled, one child under 5 years old, and students (between 2:00PM and 7:00PM) ride free.[2][3] On October 13, 2008, TheBus began accepting payment using SmarTrip regional farecards.[4]

  • 12- West Hyattsville Station to Mt Rainier/Chillum via Ager Road, Queens Chapel Road, Chillum Road, Arundel Road, Russell Avenue, 28th Place, Upshur Street, Rainier Avenue, 34th Street, Taylor Street, Eastern Avenue, Rhode Island Avenue (Route 1), Volta Avenue, 38th Street, 38th Avenue, Hamilton Street, Chillum Road, 16th Avenue, Ray Road, Sargent Road, and Madison Street; serves the communities of Mount Rainier, Brentwood, Hyattsville, Avondale, and Chillum. The Bus Route 12 serves Cora B. Woods Senior Center when going through Brentwood.

Note: The Bus Route 17 originally operated from the College Park Metro Station to the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and Paducah Road in Northern College Park via Paint Branch Parkway, Kenilworth Avenue, Calvert Road, Edmonston Road, Pontiac Street, 60th Avenue, Greenbelt Road, Rhode Island Avenue, 51rst Avenue, 52nd Avenue, and Paducah Road until an IKEA store opened on June 17, 2003 at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue (Route 1) and Ikea Way. The Bus 17 originally served the communities of College Park, Berwyn Heights, and Greenbelt before being rerouted. As of June 17, 2003, The Bus Route 17 was rerouted to operate from Langley Park to Ikea Way via New Hampshire Avenue, Merrimac Drive, New Riggs Road, Riggs Road, University Boulevard, Campus Drive, Paint Branch Parkway, River Road, Baltimore Avenue (Route 1), and Ikea Way.[5] and Ikea Way. Between June, 2003 and February, 2010, The Bus Route 17 served the communities of College Park, Lewisdale, Adelphi, and Langley Park as well as the University of Maryland College Park Campus. The Bus Route 17 would still use Paint Branch Parkway and River Road to enter the College Park Metro Station but would then turn back on these roads to get back onto Baltimore Avenue (Route 1). The Bus Route 17 was once again rerouted to serve from the Mount Rainier Terminal at 34th Street & Rhode Island Avenue to Ikea Way instead, on February 18, 2010[5] as part of Prince Georges County's initiative to reduce the overall traffic/ provide better service on Route 1.[5] The Bus Route 17 has ever since just operated between the Mount Rainier terminal and Ikea Way by simply traveling straight on Route 1. The Bus Route 17 currently overlaps a portion of Wmata's routes 81 and 83, from the Mount Rainier Terminal to the bus stop at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Greenbelt Road.[5] These two Wmata routes already service these areas on the Route 1 corridor when traveling between the Rhode Island Avenue Metro Station in the District of Columbia and Cherry Hill Campground Park in College Park, MD. However, Prince Georges County added The Bus Route 17 to supplement Wmata's bus routes to respond to people's complaints about the service on Route 1 being inadequate/ in frequent.[5] The Bus Route 17 has been serving the communities of Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood, Hyattsville, Riverdale, University Park, and College Park since being rerouted in February, 2010.
  • 18- Langley Park to Addison Rd via Edwards Place, New Hampshire Avenue, Merrimac Drive, 14th Avenue, Kanawha Street, 15th Avenue, University Boulevard, 23rd Avenue, East West Highway, Belcrest Road, Queens Chapel Road, Hamilton Street, 38th Avenue/ 38th Street, Bladensburg Road, Annapolis Road, Cheverly Avenue, Columbia Park Road, Martin Luther King Junior Highway, and Addison Road (rerouted to terminate at the new Takoma Langley Crossroads Transit Center on December, 22, 2016, instead of its original Langley Park terminal at the intersection of Edwards Place and New Hampshire Avenue right behind Langley Park Plaza); route serves the communities of Langley Park, Lewisdale, Hyattsville, Brentwood, Cottage City, Colmar Manor, Bladensburg, Cheverly, Landover, Fairmount Heights, Seat Pleasant, and Walker Mill.
