Plot

In a village, an old lady Ravamma (Bhanumathi Ramakrishna) is rich & traditional. Her husband Musalaiah (N. T. Rama Rao) leaves the house due to financial problems that arose and becomes a wanderer. But Ravamma somehow manages the agriculture and safeguards property. Her only son & daughter-in-law die due to the epidemic and she lives for her only grandson Ramaiah (again N. T. Rama Rao). Ramaiah has 4 sons & 1 daughter. Time changes, and due to that Ravamma has to lose her entire property. Ramayya wants to leave the city feeling that he can earn & educate his children which Ravamma doesn't like and she stays back. Ramaiah reaches city along with family and starts working as a clerk in an office. Years roll by, 4 sons are of four different natures. Eldest son Govindu marries an intercaste girl Saru (Subha) and for the marriage expenses, Ramaiah sells some land of his grandmother which hurts her a lot. The second son Hareram (Raja Babu) joins in hippie's group. The third son Venkatesam (Nandamuri Harikrishna) comes into the trap of girl Mala (Vijayalalitha) and the daughter Rama (Roja Ramani) loses her life as she becomes a scapegoat to modern lifestyle. Finally, Ramiah lands up in jail for the crime committed by Hareram and his wife Seeta (Kanchana) commits suicide. In that ruined family last boy Balakrishna (Nandamuri Balakrishna) is good-natured who is left alone comes back to the village to see his great-grandmother. By that time Ravamma is 97 years old and seeing her great-grandson feels most happy. After that, Balakrishna comes to know that the entire village is under severe drought. So, he succeeds in digging a well using the rig and brings green revolution using modern techniques. He receives Krishi Pandit award from Govt of India and he requests the award to be presented to his great-grandmother. Ravamma feels proud that her great-grandson fulfilled her dream for which she is striving. At last, real culprits have been caught, Ramaiah is released and comes back to the village with the remaining family. Finally, Musalaiah also arrives and the movie ends on a happy note with the reunion of the entire family.
