Distribution and ecology

Tamarix senegalensis are founded in the arid zone of the coasts of Africa, they are also founded on the Cape Verde islands.
The tamarisk species are resistant to the salinity of the soils and could allow the restocking of abandoned farmland following the salinization of the soil in the coastal Sahel areas, particularly in Senegal.[3]
In the Portuguese language, it is called “tarrafe”, and a plantation of “tarrafes” is called “tarrafal”. Hence its Senegalese tamarisks grown in the area, it gives the name to three places in Cape Verde including Tarrafal on the island of Santiago, Tarrafal de Monte Trigo on the west of Santo Antão and Tarrafal de São Nicolau on the homonymous island. It also gives the name to a neighborhood of Ribeira Grande near the town center in Santo Antão.
Its leaves are measured between 4–5 cm long.
