Tam Sheang Tsung (born 24 May 1995) is a Malaysian footballer who is currently playing for D'AR Wanderers F.C. in the Malaysia FAM League.[1][2]
Career
Tam was born in Tokyo, Japan to Malaysian Chinese parents hailing from Malacca. Despite growing up in Tokyo, Tam has a Malaysian citizenship, which in turns allow him to represent Malaysia on an international level. Tam began playing football at the age of nine, in which when he was 13 years old, he played for the U-15 Yokohama FC academy team. Tam later on would play for the youth team of Sagan Tosu and Mito Hollyhock prior to his move to China.[3]
At the age of 14, he went to São Paulo to join São Bernardo for a four-month training stint and later on at the age of 15 years, he again went to another training stint, this time in Cardiff City FC for three months. His training stint in Cardiff was set up by the club owner and Business tycoon, Tan Sri Vincent Tan, in which the Businessman sponsored Tam's entire 3-month stay in Cardiff.[4]
In 2012, Tam Sheang Tsung signed his first professional contract with Chinese Super League outfit, Shanghai Shenhua FC, in which he was unveiled with former Chelsea FC forward, Nicolas Anelka.[5] Tam made his first official debut for Shanghai Shenhua in a friendly match against English giants, Manchester United FC, in which he came on the 88th minute in a 1-0 loss. Tam debuted at the age of 17, making him one of the youngest player ever debuted for the club. Despite his impressive trial, Tam mostly played for the reserve team and later on left the club in order to pursue more playing time.[6]
In 2014, Tam left Shanghai Shenhua and joined Japanese outfit, Avispa Fukuoka.[7] However, he only played for one season before leaving the club and joining Kataller Toyama. After one season, he again left and joined Gainare Tottori.[8]
In 2017, after a series of unsuccessful stints in his time in Japan, Tam left and tried his luck abroad on his parents native homeland and went on trial with the newly promoted team, Melaka United. 3 months later, he was signed by the new club coach, Eric Williams for the 2017 Malaysia Super League season.[9]
In November 2017, it was announced that Tam Jr has been signed for Malaysia FAM League club D'AR Wanderers. On 25 February 2018, he made his first league appearance for D'AR Wanderers in a 0–2 defeat over Hanelang coming off bench for Mohamad Shaufie.
