TRI Pointe Group Inc. designs, constructs, and sells single-family detached and attached homes in the United States. It operates six brands across eight different states and is headquartered in Irvine, California. The company also provides mortgage financing, title, and property and casualty insurance services.[2]

History

Doug Bauer, Tom Mitchell, and Mike Grubbs founded TRI Pointe Homes in 2009. The company partnered with Starwood Capital in its initial stages.[3] In January 2013, TRI Pointe Homes went public – the first home building company to do so since 2004.[4]

[5]

TRI Pointe provides its builders with resources through programs such as LivingSmart, which focuses on sustainability and environmental impact, and HomeSmart, which focuses on in-home technology. For example, using the HomeSmart program, Quadrant Homes – one of the Group’s subsidiaries – offers internet-enabled doorbell cameras, thermostats, and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices for voice control capability of the products.[6][7]

Subsidiaries

TRI Pointe Group operates six brands.[8][9]

  • Maracay in Arizona
  • Pardee Homes in California and Nevada
  • Quadrant Homes in Washington
  • Trendmaker Homes in Texas
  • TRI Pointe Homes in California and Colorado
  • Winchester Homes in Maryland and Virginia

Winchester Homes

Winchester Homes is a member of TRI Pointe Group, Inc. The residential homebuilding company was founded in 1979 and is based in Bethesda, Maryland.  It offers single-family and townhome communities in Maryland and Northern Virginia.[10] In 2014, TRI Pointe Group merged with the Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, Winchester’s original parent company.  The merger brought Winchester and four other homebuilding brands into TRI Pointe.[11]

The company offers single family and townhome communities in Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Frederick counties in Maryland; Prince William, Loudoun counties in Northern Virginia.[12]

As of 2018, Winchester had built over 20,000 homes in the mid-Atlantic region.[13] Winchester builds different resources into its homes, using programs such as HomeSmart technology. HomeSmart provides a variety of home automation features.[14]

Each home is designed and built using the company’s LivingSmart program.  The program focuses on creating healthier, more comfortable environments and includes five components: EarthSmart, HealthSmart, EnergySmart, WaterSmart and HomeSmart.[15]
