The 12471/72 Bandra Terminus Katra Swaraj Express is a Superfast express train belonging to Indian Railways Northern Railways Zone that runs between Bandra Terminus and Katra in India.

It operates as train number 12471 from Bandra Terminus to Katra and as train number 12472 in the reverse direction.

It would initially run from Mumbai Central. Later it was transferred to Bandra Terminus. Gets Gzb Wap4/7 for end to end journey

The 12471/72 Bandra Terminus Katra Swaraj Express presently has 2 AC 2 tier, 4 AC 3 tier, 12 Sleeper Class, 5 General Unreserved coaches & 1 Pantry Car. It now runs with LHB coaches. [2]

As the average speed of the train is above 55 km/hr, as per Indian Railway rules, its fare includes a Superfast surcharge.

Routing

The 12471/72 Bandra Terminus Jammu Tawi Swaraj Express runs via Vadodara Junction, Ratlam Junction, Kota Junction, New Delhi, Ambala Cantonment Junction, Jalandhar Cantt Junction, Jammu Tawi to Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Katra [3]

Traction

Earlier Dual traction WCAM 1 or WCAM 2/2P locos would haul the train between Mumbai Central & Vadodara after which a Vadodara based WAP 4 would take over until Ambala Cantonment following which WDM 3A twins from Ludhiana shed would take over until Jammu Tawi.

Since Western Railways completed DC Electric Conversion to AC on 5 February 2012, it was regularly hauled by a Vadodara based WAP 4 until Ambala Cantonment following which WDM 3A twins from Ludhiana shed took over until Jammu Tawi.

Post electrification of Jalandhar - Jammu section, this train is now hauled end to end by a Vadodara based WAP4E or WAP 5 from Bandra Terminus to Jammu Tawi.
